The rules in Albania are practically the same as in many other countries, making it comfortable for tourists to drive here. Below are the key highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Driving on the right side of the road<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Left-hand drive vehicles<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Speed limits:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In urban areas: 50 km\/h (though signs often indicate 40 km\/h, and these are quite common)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outside urban areas: 80 km\/h<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On highways: 110 km\/h (there are only two highways in the country)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Seat belts<\/strong>: All passengers, both in the front and back, are required to wear seat belts. However, locals tend to ignore this rule, and the police rarely enforce it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blood alcohol limit:<\/strong> 0.1\u2030. Although Albanians are generally not heavy drinkers, it&#8217;s common for them to drive after a glass of wine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Child seats:<\/strong> Mandatory for children under 12 years old. However, this rule is widely ignored by locals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Important Notes:<\/p>\n<cite><strong>Speeding:<\/strong> Even exceeding the speed limit by 1 km\/h is technically a violation. The main highways are in great condition. The once-nonexistent road to the Accursed Mountains now has new asphalt. Repairs have begun on the SH75, Albania\u2019s most scenic route. The road to the Blue Eye spring has also been upgraded. Public transport simply doesn\u2019t reach 80% of the country\u2019s attractions. However, you don\u2019t necessarily need a car in Tirana. It&#8217;s a compact city where almost all tourist spots are within walking distance, except for two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Tip:<\/p>\n<cite>If you&#8217;re flying into and out of Tirana Airport and renting a car, plan your route so that you leave the airport directly by car. In most other cities, parking is chaotic but manageable wherever traffic rules and common sense allow. However, in Tirana, parking is prohibited along all major roads and throughout the city center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Public Transport:<\/strong> Only ground transport is available \u2014 buses, minibusses, and taxis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Traffic Jams:<\/strong> Traffic can be overwhelming, turning driving into a nightmare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Useful to know:<\/strong><\/p>\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/travel-4-fun.com\/albania\/taxi-service-and-private-transfer\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1464\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Taking a taxi is the best way to get to the airport<\/a> or the outskirts of the city, such as the Enver Hoxha Bunker. For everything else, walking is the simplest solution. Let&#8217;s start with the simpler part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"\u043f\u0430\u0440\u043a\u043e\u0432\u043a\u0430-\u0432-\u0433\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0434\u0430\u0445-\u0430\u043b\u0431\u0430\u043d\u0438\u0438\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Parking_in_Albanian_Cities\"><\/span><strong>Parking in Albanian Cities<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In 99% of cases, parking in Albanian cities is free and chaotic. You simply leave your car wherever you find a spot along the road. That&#8217;s what locals do, and you&#8217;ll end up doing the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paid parking (excluding Tirana) can be found in select locations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pogradec (on Lake Ohrid)<\/strong>: Paid parking is only enforced during the high tourist season and costs 50 lek (half a euro) per hour. <strong>From October onwards<\/strong>, parking is free everywhere in the city.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/travel-4-fun.com\/albania\/wp-content\/themes\/maktub\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/travel-4-fun.com\/albania\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2023\/07\/dorogi-pogradec-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"parking cost in albania\" class=\"wp-image-2896\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Payment methods are indicated on parking signs. This is when locals set up informal parking lots for tourists. There simply isn&#8217;t enough parking. The streets are packed with cars. In the city center, parking is only permitted in designated paid zones. Outside the center, parking may be free but still remains a major challenge \u2014 there\u2019s simply no space available. Every spot, no matter how small, is occupied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Locals take parking very seriously.
