This makes its climate mild and not very humid.

The distance from the Atlantic Ocean, over 1000 km away, plays a significant role. The Atlantic is the source of cold, rain, and snow in Europe.

There are no mountains in the country. The highest point in Hungary is Mount Kékes, only 1014 meters above sea level.

Since the country is relatively small, it is all in one climatic zone. The climate across the entire country is the same, as are the average annual temperatures, with minimal differences. Yes, just like anywhere, it can rain in Budapest while it’s sunny in Debrecen at the same time, but that’s about the weather, not the climate.

In the summer, Hungary has about 70% sunny days. There are plenty of them in any part of the country; you just need to know the places.

Personally, I love Hungarian winters. They are mild and warm, without extreme cold like -20 or -30. But most importantly, in any city in the country during this time, you need to go to outdoor thermal baths. The water there is around +38 to +40 degrees Celsius, and it’s amazing to sit in such baths when it’s +5 outside.

Interesting to know:

Many might be surprised, but the Széchenyi Thermal Baths in Budapest are far from the only ones. In Budapest alone, there are 13-14 thermal baths open year-round. Every city in the country has thermal baths, and in some places, there are several where the water is +40 degrees even in winter. Hungary has about 1300 thermal baths with hot water, and you can visit all of them.

Review of the best thermal baths in Hungary: prices, location, tips. There are many non-touristy places.

In conclusion, the weather in Hungary is generally comfortable throughout the year. It’s hot in the summer, not too cold in the winter, with very few freezing days. The ideal seasons in Hungary, in the author’s opinion, are spring and autumn (April-May and September-October). But even in winter, it’s great here, especially if your goal is to enjoy hot springs. In Hungary, you can easily plan a trip where you visit a different thermal bath every day.

Remember, in travel, any weather is beautiful, even if you’re heading to the North Sea in February.
