Interesting to know:<\/p>\nAccording to legend, the Accursed Mountains got their name due to their extreme inaccessibility. For centuries, people couldn’t reach these remote peaks, and myths spread about mythical beasts attacking anyone who dared to enter. Another theory suggests that the jagged peaks resemble the fangs of wild animals, reinforcing the idea of danger and earning the mountains their ominous name.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

How to Get to Prokletije National Park<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The best way to reach Prokletije is by car<\/strong>\u2014either your own or a rental. Roads are in excellent or near-perfect condition, and even a regular car can handle the drive. The last 5 km<\/strong> leading into Grebaje Valley<\/strong> is a gravel road, but it’s manageable for any vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From Podgorica to Plav (the gateway to the Accursed Mountains), there are two routes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- 100 km<\/strong> \u2013 A shortcut via the local M9 road<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- 170 km<\/strong> \u2013 A smooth, scenic route through Kola\u0161in, Mojkovac, and Zaton<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
Driving time:<\/strong> Both options take around 3 hours<\/strong>, but I recommend the longer route\u2014it\u2019s safer, more scenic, and less tiring for the driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The optimal route from Podgorica\u2014170 km. It\u2019s longer but safer and just as fast as the shorter option. The map also shows that Prokletije National Park extends across three countries: Montenegro, Albania, and Kosovo.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n A public bus<\/strong> follows this route as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This region is sparsely populated compared to the coast, with no major cities. As a result, public transport is limited<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The only way to reach the Accursed Mountains by bus<\/strong> is to travel to Plav or Gusinje.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plav<\/strong>. A picturesque town with 13,000 residents<\/strong> located on the shores of Plav Lake<\/strong>. It has all the necessary infrastructure: stores, gas stations, and a wide selection of accommodations. In summer, locals flock here for fishing. - From Plav to the start of the hiking trails:<\/strong> ~15 km.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Gusinje<\/strong>. A tiny town with only 3,000 residents<\/strong>\u2014you can walk through the entire center in just 12 minutes<\/strong>! It has a small store and a tavern, both open year-round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
