many settlements in this region, has witnessed centuries of wars and conflicts. Over its more than <strong>2,000-year history<\/strong>, it has been part of the <strong>Roman Empire, Byzantium, the Ottoman Empire, and Yugoslavia<\/strong>. It is the <strong>only<\/strong> town in the Bay of Kotor without an old town, fortress, or medieval streets like Kotor, Perast, or Herceg Novi. There are <strong>no natural beaches<\/strong> within the city limits. Most of the coastline is occupied by <strong>Porto Montenegro Marina<\/strong>, while the rest consists of a <strong>pedestrian promenade<\/strong>. Like in many coastal towns in the region, <strong>makeshift beaches<\/strong> have been set up on <strong>concrete piers<\/strong>. And since <strong>Tivat is very small<\/strong>, the nearest <strong>pebble beach<\/strong> is only <strong>1.5 km from the center<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the <strong>coordinates of Tivat\u2019s beaches and nearby options<\/strong>. Flowers Island<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Many travel guides describe it as a beautiful location, but I\u2019m not sure why. It\u2019s a tiny island near Tivat Airport, connected to the mainland by a bridge. During the Yugoslav era, it was home to an elite military sanatorium and lush Mediterranean vegetation. Today, everything is abandoned, including the sanatorium. About 30 houses remain, inhabited by Bosnian refugees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are still <strong>two active medieval churches<\/strong>: the <strong>Church of the Holy Trinity<\/strong> and a <strong>monastery<\/strong>.
