Even though I argue that Bar is not exactly a tourist town, it does have its advantages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interesting to know:<\/p>\nBar is divided into two main areas\u2014Old Bar and New Bar<\/strong>. Old Bar, founded in the 6th century, features the remains of a fortress and some historical landmarks. However, it sits 5 km from the sea in the mountains<\/strong>, so you\u2019ll need a bus or car to get there. New Bar, on the other hand, was designed and built during the Yugoslav era, making its architecture quite different from the rest of Montenegro<\/strong>.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

- Flat terrain<\/strong>: Unlike other coastal towns, you won\u2019t be endlessly climbing stairs. This is a huge advantage for families with young children. About vacation with children in Montenegro.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n

A Budget-Friendly Destination:<\/p>\nBar is also considered one of the cheapest places for tourists<\/strong> in Montenegro. Food prices are fairly consistent across the country, but accommodation here is noticeably cheaper. Even during peak season, you can find apartments for \u20ac20\u201330 per night<\/strong>, whereas in Budva or Kotor, similar options start at \u20ac40 or more<\/strong>.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Cons of Staying in Bar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The biggest drawback of Bar is its beaches<\/strong>. As seen in the aerial photo earlier, a large part of the coastline is occupied by the freight railway terminal, naval base, port, and marina<\/strong>. While there is a beach, the water is always murky (read: dirty)<\/strong>, and maintenance is poor. If you\u2019re looking for good swimming spots, check out the section below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main promenade along the sea<\/strong> is also underwhelming. While it\u2019s possible to take a walk, it lacks the charm and scenic views found in other Montenegrin towns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another downside, which isn\u2019t immediately obvious, is Bar\u2019s architecture<\/strong>. The town feels more like a gray, Soviet-style city<\/strong> with dull buildings. It lacks the traditional Montenegrin charm\u2014except for the palm trees, you might as well be in an Eastern European suburb rather than at a seaside resort. Unlike Budva or Kotor, there aren\u2019t many attractions<\/strong> here. You\u2019ll probably explore the entire town on your first evening\u2014but then what?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bar\u2019s main beach<\/strong> is just over 2 km long<\/strong>, but it is poorly maintained. People do swim and sunbathe here, but most prefer to travel to beaches outside the city<\/strong>. The proximity to the freight port makes the main beach rather unappealing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Main Beach Breakdown:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
The 2 km stretch of Bar\u2019s main beach<\/strong> is divided into three sections:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Bar Beach<\/strong> (42.10217, 19.08904<\/em><\/a>) \u2013 closest to the marina and the dirtiest<\/strong>. Tourists don\u2019t swim here, but it\u2019s a great spot to watch the sunset.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Royal Beach<\/strong> \u2013 the next section, where people actually go to swim<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Topolica Beach<\/strong> \u2013 the last section, officially designated for pets<\/strong>. In reality, it\u2019s the only beach in Bar where dogs are allowed<\/strong> to swim.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Further along the coast, you\u2019ll find:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- \u0160u\u0161anj Beach<\/strong> (42.10968917586614, 19.08598178354205<\/a>)<\/em> \u2013 2 km from Bar\u2019s center<\/strong>, walkable. It\u2019s the most popular beach among tourists<\/strong> in Bar, but complaints about bad smells, dirt, and murky water<\/strong> are common. Well, it\u2019s Bar\u2014what did you expect? \ud83d\ude05<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Red Beach<\/strong> (42.12011, 19.07049<\/a>)<\/em> \u2013 3.5 km from Bar, named after its reddish-pink sand<\/strong>. It\u2019s small, crowded in the summer, and lined with \u20ac20-per-day sunbeds<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Finally, the most remote option:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Bigovica Beach<\/strong> (42.0767627069971, 19.085882878918596<\/a>)<\/em> \u2013 A small, wild pebble beach<\/strong> (about 70 meters long<\/strong>), located on the other side of the port and railway terminal<\/strong>. It\u2019s about 5 km from Bar\u2019s center<\/strong>\u2014you can drive 3.5 km<\/strong>, but the last stretch is a scenic walking trail<\/strong>. Since this is a wild beach, bring food and water<\/strong> with you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Sutomore Beaches<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 5-6 km away<\/strong>, in the resort town of Sutomore<\/strong>. One particularly interesting beach here requires you to pass through a 200-meter tunnel inside a rock<\/strong>. And no, this tunnel wasn\u2019t originally meant for people or cars\u2014it was built for water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Bar is a year-round city<\/strong>, most restaurants stay open even in the winter. Finding a place for dinner is never a problem<\/strong>, and portion sizes are big<\/strong>, especially when it comes to meat dishes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to sightseeing, Bar doesn\u2019t have much to offer. Finding even five locations that could be called attractions is a challenge. What wouldn\u2019t even make the top 20 in Kotor is considered the number one site in Bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
