Today, it has transformed into a beach resort\u2014still small, but no longer deserted. During peak season, it gets packed with tourists. In this guide, I\u2019ll share the best places to eat, provide a ranking of hotels and apartments, and review the local beaches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There aren\u2019t any historical landmarks destinations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>10 km from Bar<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>20 km from Ulcinj<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The name \u201cDobra Voda\u201d translates from Montenegrin as \u201cGood Water.\u201d And indeed, the water here is crystal clear\u2014just like in many other parts of Montenegro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Bit of History<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Before 2015, Dobra Voda was an unknown fishing village. However, as land along Montenegro\u2019s coastline became increasingly expensive, investors and wealthy locals turned their attention to this area. Popular resorts like Budva were already overcrowded, leaving little space for new development. Meanwhile, land in Dobra Voda was still relatively cheap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By 2016, construction was booming, and by 2020, the village had undergone a complete transformation. Today the pace of construction has slowed, but the area continues to evolve into a classic beach resort. The peaceful, secluded atmosphere it once had five to seven years ago is now a thing of the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">How to Get to Dobra Voda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no direct buses from major cities or airports to Dobra Voda. However, a few private minibus operators run daily routes between <strong>Dobra Voda \u2013 Bar<\/strong> and <strong>Dobra Voda \u2013 Ulcinj<\/strong>, though there is no official schedule. The fare is around <strong>\u20ac3<\/strong> per trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Good to know:<\/p>\n<cite>Dobra Voda serves as a transit point for public transportation. All scheduled buses traveling <strong>north to Ulcinj<\/strong> and <strong>south from Ulcinj<\/strong> make a stop here.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/travel-4-fun.com\/montenegro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/dobra-voda-1.jpg\" alt=\"how to get to dobra voda\" class=\"wp-image-4919\" style=\"width:706px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Example schedule: There are <strong>11 daily buses<\/strong> from Bar to Ulcinj that pass through Dobra Voda.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3\">All of these buses stop in Dobra Voda, so getting to Bar is easy. For more details on <a href=\"https:\/\/travel-4-fun.com\/montenegro\/bar-top-5-places-restaurants-beaches\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4468\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bar<\/a>, including what to see, where to eat, and the best beaches, check out my separate article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Apartments and Hotels in Dobra Voda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One unique feature of Dobra Voda is that, unlike other Montenegrin resorts with centuries-old history, this area was developed more recently. As a result, residential buildings were constructed right by the water. Over time, generations came and went, homes were rebuilt, and the first-line properties remained in private hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, this means <strong>many hotels and apartments are built directly on the waterfront<\/strong>, with staircases leading from the hotel terraces down the rocky shore straight to the sea. You won\u2019t find this in many other Montenegrin resorts\u2014most places, like Budva or Bar, have roads or parks separating the beachfront from residential buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/travel-4-fun.com\/montenegro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/dobra-voda-2.jpg\" alt=\"dobra voda resort\" class=\"wp-image-4920\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This is what Dobra Voda looks like now, packed with new hotels. However, if you choose to stay in a <strong>local apartment in the old part<\/strong>, be aware that the distance to the beach is around <strong>2 km<\/strong>, with an <strong>elevation gain of 200 meters<\/strong>. If you\u2019re traveling with small children, walking uphill with a stroller might not be ideal!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>old part<\/strong> of the town is up on a hill above the main road (marked in yellow on maps) and <strong>has no beaches<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>new part (Dubrava)<\/strong> is where all the development is happening and where <strong>both of Dobra Voda\u2019s beaches<\/strong> are located.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\" id=\"4\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/travel-4-fun.com\/montenegro\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/dobra-voda-3.jpg\" alt=\"map dobra voda\" class=\"wp-image-4921\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The old part of the city is located on a mountain above the highway (yellow road) and there are no beaches there. And the new part is being actively built up and all the beaches (all 2) are located right here<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Restaurants and Taverns in Dobra Voda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Like everywhere in Montenegro, even the smallest villages have plenty of places to eat, so you <strong>won\u2019t go hungry<\/strong> here. The two most popular types of cuisine in tourist areas are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Montenegrin cuisine<\/strong> (lots of grilled meat)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mediterranean cuisine<\/strong> (pasta, pizza, risotto, and seafood)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, most restaurants offer dishes from both traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>It&#8217;s important to know:<\/p>\n<cite>Portions in Montenegro are <strong>huge<\/strong>. If the menu lists a dish as <strong>300 grams<\/strong>, that often refers to just the meat, with sides ordered separately.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are <strong>two restaurants I personally like<\/strong>. I wouldn\u2019t say they\u2019re the absolute best, but they serve <strong>large portions, have reasonable prices, and the food is delicious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Konoba Makina Vucinica<\/strong> \u2013 <em><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/S7HpSJJhGRqq8PSN7\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/S7HpSJJhGRqq8PSN7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">42.048575313643774, 19.14494739839256<\/a><\/em>. A <strong>family-run restaurant<\/strong> in the old part of town. If you walk from the beach, you\u2019ll definitely <strong>build up an appetite<\/strong>\u2014it\u2019s a <strong>2.5 km walk with a 220-meter elevation gain<\/strong>!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dubrava Konoba<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/y7gh8kGzVF7XuZhz9\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/y7gh8kGzVF7XuZhz9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">42.03025548529056, 19.15269055366985<\/a>. Another <strong>family-run tavern<\/strong>. Affordable, tasty, and with <strong>generous portions<\/strong>. Highly recommended. Located just <strong>900 meters from the main beach<\/strong>, with a small incline of about 50 meters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Overview of the Beaches in Dobra Voda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dobra Voda is a small town with only <strong>two real beaches<\/strong>. There are also a few rocky areas that some call &#8220;beaches,&#8221; but these are more like makeshift swimming spots. Essentially, if you can climb down into the water, it&#8217;s considered a beach. Often, this means a small 2&#215;2 meter platform with a ladder leading into the sea. However, below, I&#8217;ll focus on the <strong>two actual beaches<\/strong> in Dobra Voda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The beaches are called <strong>Mali Pijesak<\/strong> and <strong>Veliki Pijesak<\/strong>, which translate to &#8220;Small Sand&#8221; and &#8220;Big Sand.&#8221; However, let me clarify right away\u2014<strong>these beaches have nothing to do with sand<\/strong>. It is a <strong>public beach<\/strong>, meaning entrance is free. However, during peak season, about <strong>80% of the beach is occupied by sun loungers<\/strong>, which cost <strong>\u20ac15-20 per day<\/strong> for two loungers and an umbrella.
